Mid-IR Surface Plasmon Polaritons in CdZnO thin films on GaAs

• In this work, the first integration of a continuous polycrystalline CdZnO thin layer on GaAs, one dominant mid-IR optoelectronic platforms, is reported. The preserved out-of-plane orientation crystal grain yields very minor degradation plasma damping compared to monocrystalline grown sapphire. CdZnO/GaAs system holds Surface Plasmon Polaritons with figure merit comparable best TCOs in mid-IR: AZO, GZO or ITO. This work opens door for use plasmonics amplification and control light hybrid devices. Metal-oxides are known be ideal alternatives noble metals plasmonics, but they typically substrates as sapphire glass, which cannot used active materials electronic We demonstrate here that Cd(Zn)O films can integrated material platforms mid-IR. likely plasmonic region spectrum, we show when deposited GaAs it support surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). As result grains, these layers moderately degraded respect sapphire, yielding an SPP quality factor other typical like ITO, added functionality being GaAs. Hence, results open development future Cd(Zn)O/GaAs technology, where amplify electric field underlying devices, e.g. photodetectors.
